Music at Aston

Students playingMusic staff at Aston are committed to providing extra-curricular activities for students that not only enhance learning within the classroom but also encourage students to try out new instruments and ideas. Students work together and improve their confidence, whilst making new friends and building on relationships with each other.

We offer many extra-curricular activities such as orchestra, senior and junior choirs, rock band and senior wind ensemble. We also offer other subject enhancement activities such as keyboard practice and music technology club. Students are encouraged to perform at presentation evenings, assemblies and at our extremely popular concerts.

Last year was a very busy time for the music department. We produced a Chrismas and Summer concert, with an extra show for Year 6 students. We also took members of our choir to St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield again to perform for the patients. Another successful activity included African drumming workshops which consisted of staff and Y9 students from Aston, resulting in a performance for Y7 students.

In July 2009 we took 60 students and staff from our choir and orchestra to perform on stage at Disneyland, Paris for the second consecutive year. The trip was a result of a successful audition and we hope to run a similar trip this year, due to the enormous success of the last two.
